Old Donny Norfolk

Nope, I'm still not dead ;) I've been musing the last post. It's one of those things where I've been thinking I'd like to say something to explain what happened since then (Summary: :) ), but I haven't really worked out what.

Anyway, it's not likely to be within the next few days - early tomorrow (Wednesday) morning I'm off up to Doncaster with my boss to demo our progress with an application we started writing this month to a new client.
Wednesday evening, rather than heading back home, it's off to a hotel in Norwich so that I'm ready for a Speed Awareness Course that begins at 9:30 in the morning (taking it elsewhere, it seems, was not an option) Incidentally, I did 36mph - I think that the option of doing a course instead of getting points is a great idea, and shows an effort to genuinely improve safety - unlike someone in my office who seems to think that all of the police are out to get you. This has sparked more than a few debates ;)
Myself and another colleague both looked at him slightly gob-smacked as he told the story of one of his mates who "didn't do anything wrong, except speed a bit, doing 100+, but perfectly safe! I mean he was dodging the police stingers and everything, it was only them chasing him that caused a problem! Only stopped because he ran out of petrol."

Aaaaanyway :)

Back in a few days. :)

  1. B*gger the speeding, this is simply evasive tactics!

  3. Btw Monk, it's not so long ago that I had to take my Driver Awareness Course in Wareham, Dorset, do you remember? It was all I could do not to fall asleep in mine .......... it really was so tedious. Let us know how you got on!!

  4. So how was the course? Everyone I know who's done it in Lancashire, where they have the same policy, speak very highly of it. But only because the food at the hotel where it's held is top notch and lunch is the highlight of the day!

  5. Happy Whitsun Monkfish...I love the constancy of this blog...

  6. hey cogi, we can always talk to each other, right? ;o) Do you have a blog yourself? I tried clicking on your name but there doesn't seem to be one.

northern monkey, they hold it at a hotel in Lancashire? Good grief! In Dorset it's held way out of town on some secure rural industrial estate site, in a modern impersonal building, where just tea, coffee and bikkies are served in the break.

  7. Hi Zeb

No not as yet...maybe one day but it's difficult as regards the anonymity stakes...

    How about you?

  8. cogi, I started one but I didn't finish ;o)

I post on a nearly dead atheist board (heheheh) and a coupla Christian boards, but currently I am blogless, can't even remember my login and password, so it is definitely an ex-blog. Might try it again sometime.

  12. I don't think it was a Speed Awareness Course at all... to judge by his recent postings I think it was a Mogadon Awareness Course...

  13. Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Do please bear with me, I would like to write something about it all. I've also been on my first quiz night recently, which I did very poorly at, but enjoyed none-the-less. :)

  14. Quiz night eh, Monk? Middle age is beckoning, obviously! *wink*

    cogi, "Mogadon Awareness Course"??
ROFLOL!! Love your sense of humour!

  15. Hmmm, this "bearing" isn't exactly rivetting. *yawn*

  16. "Do please bear with me"

Is that Teddy Bear, Threadbare (as in excuses) or "Oh god another cross to bear"?

"I've also been on my first quiz night recently, which I did very poorly at, but enjoyed none-the-less"

They asked him when he was going to blog next, he laughed nervously, and admitted he didn't know...

  17. Are you left pond or right pond zeb?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh I see, "Wareham" - right pond ... then you're an insomniac like me... but I think I've outstayed you tonight...tra la la la la...who needs Monk to keep up a conversation anyway...

    ReplyDelete
  19. Oh my goodness - right pond!! (the thought of being anything other than that verily brings on an attack of the vapours!) As my daughter said when she encountered her first ever group of left ponders said "Mum what on earth is the matter with those people?" (they were rather loud Texans, lol).

Hmmm, insomniac maybe. But night owl deffo. My *best* (or rather *worst*) one was staying up till 6am, crashing for an hour and then getting up again, lol.

Not only am I right pond, but am also south (not a posh southern git tho, I don't think so anyway!)
    - what about you?

    Zeb.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Hi Zeb...Yes I'm South too...Western end of West Sussex...how about you? (and is this night-owl enough for you?)...

  21. Oh wow, not Bognor Regis, surely?! hehehe. I loved Bognor as a kid. Grew up in Surrey and my parents loved taking us down to Bognor for hols.

I live in West Hampshire, 2 miles from the New Forest, 2 miles from the sea and 2 miles from the border with Dorrrset.

This is jolly nice, isn't it? lol

  23. Hey Zeb!

Well I'm bu**ered ... well, not literally, though George V may have been... yes Bognor Regis it is!

Are you New Milton way then?

This is splendid...far better than when you know who is around!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yay for Bognor!! We used to stay on a caravan park out in Eastergate, which had donkeys. 'Twas a very long time ago - I am talking about the mid to late 60's, oh my gosh, lol.

Visited Bognor briefly only a couple of months ago, on the way to delivering a painting to Littlehampton, and stopped and reminisced awhile. Horrible funfair on the front spoiled it a bit tho.

New Milton is my precise location (well, Ashley, which is one mile to the east). We've lived here just over 10 years, having previously lived on the Isle of Wight for 12 years.

Can I ask what you do for a living?

  25. Hi Zeb

I'm in public transport - am not saying more in an open forum though!

    You?

  26. I work part-time doing admin for my husband's business, and am also an exam invigilator at the local high school. Also involved in a voluntary capacity with homeless people, and hope to train sometime as a drugs counsellor.

    Isn't this fun, lol.

  27. Btw, I visited Fishbourne way back in the early 70's (I twigged about your nick, lol)

  28. This is certainly better than what's on the TV on a Saturday night...another avenue of communication might become necessary though if Monk comes back...

  29. Any suggestions, guv?

Another beautiful friendship formed in Blogland.

  33. Well there's certainly nobody to talk to here!

    ReplyDelete
  34. You mean to tell me that the fifteen blog posts I've published recently haven't appeared?

Oh drat, must have pushed a wrong button... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. What was that strange sound?
Oh, silly me, it was my sides splitting with laughter. ;o)
    Get a wriggle on, Monk.

    Zeb.

  36. This makes Ben Hur look like an epic ....

    Zeb.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Oh Monk...was it "difficult" for you too?

    ReplyDelete
  38. This is a long time to wait to hear what a Speed Awareness Course was like...(if one can recall that far back)...

On a different blog, roses suggested the prolonged silence might be because Quna found out about a previous posting and did him in...

I'd guess on current averages he's managing about two words a day...what was that Monk? Oh yes...Oh right...and apparently the second one of the two is "off"!

    ReplyDelete
  39. *sends out a St. Bernard to look for Monk*

    Zeb.

    ReplyDelete
  40. On the plus side, it does make me feel special to have so many comments on a post ;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well as long as *you* feel special, I guess that's the main thing. :oP
