A Journey of Mixed Feelings

...But then, aren't they all? :)

Just upgraded to the new Blogger beta. Oh no! It doesn't have the ability to edit the HTML template at the moment. How long will I have to live without my stats!? :)

Ok, perhaps I am a little too nosey ;)

I started writing something about where I am (well, what's worrying me) on other issues earlier. But I didn't finish it. So there. ;)

  1. Perhaps this isn't foremost in your thoughts right now, but I'm nosy - what's the difference between Blogger and Blogger beta?

  2. Yeah, that's what I thought I'd find out ;)

    1. No more "Publishing..." - posts publish virtually instantaneously
    2. Rearrange the page layout by dragging-and-dropping boxes around. (e.g. rearrange the boxes on the left using only the mouse)
    3. Easier editing of some aspects of the page - all the colours used, the content of the boxes on the right.
    4. Labels - you can add labels to blog posts. I haven't tried this yet, but I guess it's similar to what you can do on other sites, such as you have associated with your photos on flickr. (I might bother to go back over my old posts and label them at some point)
    5. Add security to your blog so that only certain people can read it.

    There's probably more, but I've forgotten ;)

You can find more info here, in the tour of new features, or here, on Blogger Buzz.

Everything else isn't specifically at the front of my mind at the moment, which is probably why I'm thinking about posting it while it's out the way at the back of my thoughts. Or something.

  3. Yeah, stat-wise, I did have that sort of information, but had to use a third-party service.
    (I use StatCounter)

I noticed your blog had labels/keywords/whatever the latest catchword is.

But hey, brand loyallty ;) Ok, Google isn't exactly the "underdog" (which I often tend to favour), but I still feel faithful to Blogger. I've got my little community here now, and it's introduced me to new friends, and given me somewhere to talk when I've been down. :)

I've always been picky when it comes to providers of computery stuff. I stopped using Hotmail in about '97/98 when Microsoft bought 'em ;)

  4. Hm, quite like the sound of that - but I don't want to give up my stats! (I am so nosy. But then, I don't pretend to be otherwise!)

  5. Actually, I just found a way to get the stats back in again.

You can't edit the whole template, but you can add a new content section and put in whatever you want in that, so I could paste the counter code in there :)
